Portalegre Polytechnic and UPTEC Drive Talent Attraction and Economic Growth in Portugal

Portalegre Polytechnic will award tuition‑waiver scholarships and accommodation grants to students with high entrance scores, aiming to attract and retain young talent in the region. The scheme offers a full tuition scholarship and housing for students scoring 16 or higher who list the polytechnic as first choice, and similar benefits for local residents scoring 15 or higher. New dormitories will provide 760 beds by the 2026/27 academic year.

University of Porto’s science park, UPTEC, reported that its resident companies generated €866 million in gross value added for Portugal in 2024, supporting about 15,900 jobs, €514 million in wages and €182 million in tax revenue. Since 2022 the park’s impact on GDP, employment and wages has grown far faster than national averages.
