Portici di Carta event highlights literature in Turin

The XIX edition of the Portici di Carta event in Turin has concluded, highlighting the vital role of local bookstores and the diverse interests of readers. Participants noted that classics remain the top-selling genre, while the event attracted a wide demographic ranging from children to the elderly.

Several authors presented new works during the event. Francesca Giannone discussed her novel ‘Gli anni in bianco e nero,’ which explores female independence in 1960s Lecce. Chiara Gamberale presented ‘Liberi tutti,’ an introspective thriller dealing with personal loss and psychological depth. Additionally, Luca Bianchini spoke about his novel ‘Le ragazze di Tunisi’ and the importance of bookstores as community hubs.

Discussions also addressed the challenges facing the book industry, including commercial desertification caused by digital alternatives and online sales. Experts emphasized the need for proximity, suggesting that bookstores must act as cultural centers to reconnect with local communities and support both established and emerging authors.
