Portici di Carta book festival in Turin

Overview

The XIX edition of the Portici di Carta festival took place in Turin, transforming Via Roma into an open-air library featuring 71 bookstores and 56 publishing houses. The event included a tribute to Dario Fo and a regional voucher program to encourage book purchases.

Following the conclusion of the event, participants highlighted the importance of local bookstores as community hubs. While classics remained the top-selling genre, several authors presented new works, including Francesca Giannone, Chiara Gamberale, and Luca Bianchini. Discussions during the festival also addressed industry challenges, specifically the ‘commercial desertification’ caused by digital alternatives and online sales, with experts advocating for bookstores to serve as vital cultural centers.
