Portland and Moab Implement Fireworks Bans Amid Dry Weather
Portland, Oregon, has permanently prohibited the sale and personal use of consumer fireworks, a measure first adopted in March 2022 and reaffirmed in response to recent wildfire threats and a citywide burn ban. The ban covers all fireworks within the city limits, with penalties for violations and an encouragement for residents to attend authorized displays.
In Moab, Utah, the city council voted unanimously to codify a temporary ban on personal fireworks for July. The ordinance aligns with a statewide temporary ban announced by Governor Spencer Cox and is intended to reduce wildfire risk amid extremely dry conditions. Violators face fines up to $1,000 and possible criminal charges, and the fire chief warned the annual July 4 show could be cancelled if red‑flag warnings arise.
