Porto Alegre implements dual power supply for water treatment plants

The Municipal Department of Water and Sewage (Dmae) in Porto Alegre is implementing a dual power supply system for its three largest water treatment plants: Moinhos de Vento, Menino Deus, and São João. This initiative, costing R$ 18 million, aims to increase energy security for 37 water, drainage, and sewage units, reducing the risk of supply interruptions during extreme weather events. The project, supported by CEEE Equatorial, is expected to be completed in November.

To complete the installation, scheduled power outages will occur throughout September. These interventions may cause temporary low water pressure or shortages in affected neighborhoods. The new system will provide two distinct energy sources, with one dedicated exclusively to Dmae, to ensure greater reliability for the more than 1.2 million residents served by these stations.
