Porto Alegre police arrest 10 supporters for attempted murder

Ten members of an Internacional supporters' group were arrested in Porto Alegre as part of ‘Operation Lance Final’ for their alleged involvement in the attempted murder of a Grêmio supporter. The attack occurred on March 8 during a confrontation between rival organized fan groups.

The victim was surrounded and beaten for several minutes with punches, kicks, and wooden clubs, even while lying on the ground. The assault resulted in severe injuries, including an exposed leg fracture and a serious head injury with bone loss. The victim remained in a coma for 21 days and has faced ongoing difficulties with walking and speaking following three surgeries.

The operation, conducted by the Civil Police with support from the Military Brigade, included 23 search and seizure warrants across Porto Alegre, Canoas, Alvorada, Viamão, and Cachoeirinha. While ten individuals were detained on preventive arrest warrants related to the attempted murder, an eleventh person was caught in the act of drug trafficking and illegal weapon possession. Police are also investigating the conduct of Grêmio supporters involved in the initial confrontation that preceded the attack.
