Porto Alegre football supporter violence investigation

Overview

In Porto Alegre, police conducted ‘Operation Lance Final’ to address violence involving organized football supporters. The operation led to the arrest of ten members of an Internacional supporters' group for their alleged involvement in the attempted murder of a Grêmio supporter.

The attack, which occurred on March 8 during a confrontation between rival fan groups, left the victim with severe injuries, including a serious head injury and a leg fracture. Following the assault, the victim remained in a coma for 21 days and underwent three surgeries. The police operation involved 23 search and seizure warrants across several municipalities, including Porto Alegre, Canoas, Alvorada, Viamão, and Cachoeirinha. In addition to the attempted murder arrests, authorities detained one individual for drug trafficking and illegal weapon possession.
