Porto Book Fair activities disrupted by bad weather

Adverse weather conditions have disrupted the 13th Porto Book Fair held in the Palácio de Cristal Gardens. Due to heavy rain and thunderstorms, the opening of the book sales stands was delayed, following a full day of closure on Monday.

To accommodate the weather, organizers have reprogrammed outdoor cultural activities to take place inside the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library. This includes performances such as Teatro Praga’s production of ‘Romeo & Juliet’.

The Porto City Council stated that the intention is to open the stands daily unless weather conditions make it unsafe. Despite the recent disruptions, the fair saw strong attendance early on, with approximately 41,000 visitors during the first two days, marking an increase compared to the same period in 2025. The event, which honors poet Inês Lourenço, features over 200 initiatives across 144 stands and is scheduled to run until September 6.
