Porto Book Fair event

The 13th edition of the Porto Book Fair, running from August 21 to September 6, continues at the Palácio de Cristal Gardens and the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library. The event features 144 stands and over 200 cultural initiatives, with a central tribute to the poetry of Inês Lourenço.

Adverse weather conditions, including heavy rain and thunderstorms, caused the book sales stands to remain closed for a full day on Monday, though organizers have expressed the intention to open them daily provided conditions are safe. To mitigate these disruptions, outdoor cultural activities, such as Teatro Praga’s production of ‘Romeo & Juliet’, have been reprogrammed to take place inside the Almeida Garrett Municipal Library.

Despite early weather-related delays, the fair has maintained strong engagement, recording approximately 41,000 visitors during its first two days. High-profile attendees have included the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, and the Vice-President of CCDR NORTE, Rui Costa. The fair showcases a diverse range of publishers and independent bookstores, including Greta, Editora Urutau, Grupo Infinito Particular, Âncora Editora, and Arcturus Publishing.
