Porto Germeno inspections reveal 118 unsafe buildings after Western Attica wildfires
Following the large wildfires that swept Western Attica, the General Directorate for Disaster Impact Restoration (GDAEFK) completed inspections of 325 buildings across the region. The assessments classified 88 structures as safe (green), 119 as needing repairs (yellow) and 118 as unsafe and uninhabitable (red). The bulk of the inspections – 206 in total – took place in the municipalities of Mandras‑Eidyllia and Megara, where 84 buildings were marked red.
In the hardest‑hit area of Porto Germeno, 82 properties have been examined. Of these, 40 were deemed demolition‑worthy, 37 classified red and 29 yellow. Seven inspection teams began work on the site, later expanding to eleven, to record damage and trigger compensation procedures. Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Evgalios Tournas visited the area, meeting the mayor Armodios Drikos and residents, and pledged rapid assistance. The municipality has published guidance and forms for affected owners to apply for emergency aid, housing support and reconstruction grants.
The next step is the collection of damage files from local authorities and the processing of compensation claims, with the state promising prompt payments for basic needs and rebuilding costs.
