Porto-Indústria Verde and Transnordestina interconnection study due in December

A technical, economic, and environmental feasibility study regarding the interconnection of the Porto-Indústria Verde in Caiçara do Norte with the Transnordestina railway is expected to be completed in December. The project is being conducted through a partnership between the Rio Grande do Norte State Secretariat of Planning, Budget, and Management (Seplan/RN) and the Superintendency for the Development of the Northeast (Sudene).

The initial proposal suggests linking the Porto-Indústria Verde to the Transnordestina in Iguatu, Ceará, via Mossoró, Apodi, and Pau dos Ferros, with a potential connection for Jucurutu. The study, coordinated by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (PNUD), will establish the definitive route, technical characteristics, and investment estimates. While funding for implementation has not yet been defined, officials intend to develop a model involving both federal government and private sector participation.
