Porto Velho launches emergency motorcycles to speed up SAMU response

Porto Velho has integrated four motolâncias (emergency motorcycles) into the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) to accelerate first aid response times. These motorcycles are designed for rapid pre-hospital care, particularly in situations where heavy traffic, long distances, or difficult access might delay traditional ambulances.

To implement the service, 52 staff members underwent training through a partnership between the Municipal Health Secretariat (Semusa) and Detran. Following this training, 28 professionals, including nurses and nursing technicians, were qualified to operate the motorcycles.

Initially, the motolâncias will operate during the daytime with four staff members per shift. The service aims to allow medical professionals to begin life-saving procedures immediately upon arrival, providing support while the ambulance is still en route to the scene.
