TAP Air Portugal privatization enters final negotiation round
The Portuguese government has opened a final round of negotiations for the privatization of TAP Air Portugal. This decision follows a report from Parpública submitted on September 1 regarding binding offers received in July.
Minister of the Presidency Leitão Amaro stated that the two remaining bidders, Air France-KLM and Lufthansa, submitted proposals with a "globally very close" valuation. To ensure the best outcome for national interests, the government will engage in several weeks of negotiations with both groups to seek improved offers. The process aims to sell up to 49.9% of TAP's capital, with 5% reserved for employees.
Air France-KLM has confirmed its continued interest in the acquisition, noting that its proposal includes a strategic plan covering passenger transport, cargo, loyalty programs, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services. The airline's extensive network, particularly its connections to 14 destinations across Africa, remains a significant component of the deal's value.
