Portugal allocates €23.5 million to support farmers amid rising production costs

The Portuguese government approved an extraordinary aid package totalling €23.5 million to offset higher fertiliser, fuel and other production costs for farmers. A national allocation of €20 million will be paid by the end of the week to 59,397 beneficiaries, covering both crop‑area and livestock components, with additional payments for subsidised agricultural diesel.

An extra €3.5 million is earmarked for the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores – up to €3 million for the Azores and €500,000 for Madeira – transferred under the 2026 State Budget and managed by the Treasury and Finance Entity. The measures were enacted through joint decrees by the Minister of State and Finance and the Minister of Agriculture and Sea, with regional authorities responsible for eligibility and reporting.
