Portugal allocates aid for housing and forest recovery after Storm Kristin

In Portugal, authorities are providing financial assistance to residents and landowners affected by Storm Kristin.

The municipality of Marinha Grande announced that owners of forest land damaged by the storm can apply for support of €1,000 to €1,500 per hectare for cleanup and restoration, provided the damaged area exceeds 25% of the total property. Applications must be submitted by 30 June, and the work must be completed by 15 November 2026.

In the neighbouring municipality of Vila de Rei, the local council validated €302,966 in aid for homes damaged by the same storm. After reviewing 231 applications, 134 were approved, of which 128 beneficiaries have already received €285,310. The aid covers only damage directly attributable to the storm, with non‑eligible claims excluded.

Both programmes are part of the integrated landscape management plan aimed at reducing wildfire risk and supporting affected communities.
