Brazil's electricity bills rise in July as Aneel keeps yellow tariff flag

The National Electricity Agency (Aneel) kept the yellow tariff flag in place for July, adding an extra charge of R$1.89 per 100 kilowatt‑hours consumed. The yellow flag, active since April, reflects lower hydro‑electric reservoir levels during the dry season, which forces the use of more expensive thermoelectric plants. Under the flag, a household using 100 kWh will pay R$1.89 more, 200 kWh will incur R$3.77 extra, and 300 kWh will see an increase of R$5.66. The tariff‑flag system signals generation‑cost conditions: green (no extra charge), yellow (moderate increase), and red (higher tiers).
