Portugal and Ecuador see fuel price hikes in June 2026
In Portugal, the government adjusted the fuel tax (ISP) for the week of 8‑14 June 2026, lowering discounts on gasoline while increasing the discount on diesel, leading to higher diesel prices in most regions but a temporary drop in gasoline prices on Madeira. Drivers with diesel‑powered vehicles were advised to refuel early to avoid the anticipated price rise.
Ecuador is expected to implement its fourth consecutive fuel price increase under the band‑system on 12 June 2026. The adjustment could raise gasoline (Extra and Ecopaís) from US$3.16 to about US$3.32 per gallon and premium diesel from US$3.10 to roughly US$3.25, reflecting a possible 5 % cap tied to international oil price changes and reduced refinery capacity at the Esmeraldas plant.
