Portugal confirms extraordinary supplement for 2 million pensioners
The Portuguese government has confirmed that more than two million pensioners will receive an extraordinary supplement this year, to be paid alongside their December pensions. Announced by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro during a parliamentary debate, the measure is expected to have a total budgetary impact of approximately 400 million euros.
The supplement is designed to be progressive, providing higher amounts to those with lower incomes. While final values are to be formalized in a Council of Ministers meeting, the expected tiers based on previous models are: approximately 200 euros for pensions up to 537.13 euros; approximately 150 euros for pensions between 537.13 and 1,074.26 euros; and approximately 100 euros for pensions between 1,074.26 and 1,611.13 euros.
The payment will be automatic, requiring no applications or forms from beneficiaries. This measure is a one-time extraordinary support rather than a permanent increase in pension amounts.
