Portugal electricity tariffs to rise in regulated market

The Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE) has announced an update to electricity tariffs in the regulated market, effective October 1. The adjustment of 0.005 euros per kWh is estimated to result in an approximately 2.7% increase in the average monthly electricity bill for most domestic customers in this market. This change affects nearly 779,000 consumers, representing about 4.6% of total electricity consumption.

ERSE noted that the price variation for 2026 has been updated to 1.7%, up from the 1% previously announced. This shift reflects rising prices in the spot market, driven largely by geopolitical tensions, including the conflict involving Iran and the United States, which has increased natural gas and electricity costs.

In response to the regulatory update, the energy provider Goldenergy announced it will maintain current electricity prices for its residential free-market customers until the end of the year. Goldenergy General Manager Miguel Checa cited wholesale market volatility and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East as primary drivers of energy cost fluctuations, stating the company aims to provide stability to its clients despite these pressures.
