Portugal exceeds Recovery and Resilience Plan targets in infrastructure and social sectors

Portugal is reporting significant progress and the fulfillment of targets under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).

Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) has exceeded its road infrastructure goals, constructing or requalifying 154 kilometers of roads, which is 43 kilometers more than the initial target. The company also completed 21 contractualized goals involving both road and rail networks, utilizing 508 million euros in European funds. Recent developments include the opening of the 12.8-kilometer IP2 Nascente Variante in Évora.

Simultaneously, the Portuguese Government announced that all PRR targets under the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security have been met or exceeded. These investments, totaling 1.4 billion euros, focused on strengthening social responses, improving accessibility, and digitalizing Social Security. Key outcomes include the creation or remodeling of over 28,500 social service positions, including thousands of spots in nurseries, elderly care, and home support services. The initiative also included the acquisition of over 2,000 electric vehicles for social support organizations.
