Portugal expands 20 euro rail pass to Lisbon and Porto urban services
The Portuguese government has announced an expansion of the Passe Ferroviário Verde (PFV), a 20 euro monthly rail pass. Starting in the third week of September, during European Mobility Week, the pass will become valid for CP urban services in the Lisbon and Porto metropolitan areas.
The expansion is also set to include the Fertagus line. This change allows passengers who rely exclusively on trains to opt for the PFV instead of more expensive intermodal passes like Navegante in Lisbon or Andante in Porto, which cost 40 euros per month.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the measure could save some commuters up to 480 euros annually. For example, a passenger traveling from Famalicão to Porto who currently uses both an Andante pass and the PFV could reduce their monthly costs from 60 euros to just 20 euros. The Ministry estimates the annual financial impact in compensations to CP and Fertagus will be approximately 1.5 million euros.
