Portugal extends deadline for storm‑damaged housing aid
Portugal's Minister of Economy, Castro Almeida, announced that the June 30 deadline for reviewing applications to rebuild homes damaged by early‑year storms in Leiria and Marinha Grande will be extended. The deadline was described as “indicative,” set by municipalities and regional development commissions, and the extension will allow the analysis of more than 14,000 requests for up to €10,000 each.
Almeida said over 90 % of cases are expected to be resolved by the original June 30 date, with the remaining applications dealt with later. As of June 6, only 10 % of Marinha Grande's 3,365 applications had been processed, highlighting the need for the extension.
The move aims to ensure that thousands of households receive the financial support needed to rebuild their homes after the severe weather events.
