Portugal funds over €4.5 million for storm Kristin repairs in Ourém and Leiria
The municipality of Ourém approved about €1 million to repair schools and local roads damaged by the January‑February depression Storm Kristin. The plan includes €500 000 for work at 21 schools, such as the basic school in Caxarias and the 2nd‑3rd cycle school in Freixianda, and nearly €487 000 for reconstruction of four streets in the parishes of Gondemaria, Olival and Alburitel.
The Intermunicipal Community of Leiria authorised a contract worth roughly €3.5 million to refurbish police (PSP) and National Republican Guard (GNR) facilities affected by the same storm. The works cover the PSP district command in Leiria and a station in Pombal (≈ €2 million) and GNR headquarters and several territorial posts (≈ €1.5 million). Both initiatives respond to storm Kristin’s widespread damage across central Portugal, which caused more than €5 billion in losses, 19 fatalities and hundreds of injuries and displacements.
