Portugal geography exam faces possible grading error affecting thousands of students

The Portuguese Association of Geography Teachers (APROFGEO) has called for an urgent review of the automatic grading parameters for item 12.1 in the National Geography A exam, which was taken by 16,714 candidates. In a statement, APROFGEO said it had emailed EduQA president Luís Santos and National Exam Jury (JNE) president Rui Pires requesting "verification urgent of the parametrisation of the automatic classification of item 12.1".

The request follows the discovery of two earlier mistakes in the same exam, which already forced the JNE to extend the registration deadline for the second phase of Geography A and to correct scores for items 1.3 and 4.3. APROFGEO warned that the new issue could affect "a significant number of students" and jeopardise the second‑phase exam and university admission. It urged that any affected scores be revised promptly and that clear information be communicated to schools, students and parents. The association also noted that national Physics and Chemistry A exams had to be re‑graded after an error in one item.

If confirmed, the grading problem would require a rapid correction process to ensure fairness in the national assessment system.
