Portugal heat surge drives car AC fuel warnings and UV protection alerts

As temperatures rise across Portugal, authorities and experts are issuing advice on two fronts. One report explains that using a vehicle’s air‑conditioning consumes more fuel than driving with windows open, especially at speeds above 80 km/h, though modern digital AC systems can be more efficient. The same heat wave is prompting the national weather service to warn that ultraviolet radiation levels will reach very high values, increasing the risk of skin burns, premature ageing and skin cancer.
