Portugal to face significant temperature rise in early September
Portugal is set to experience a significant rise in temperatures during the first week of September. According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), an anticyclone positioned near the Azores or northwest of mainland Portugal will drive a shift toward warmer and drier conditions.
Starting mid-week, maximum temperatures are expected to climb by 10 to 12 degrees Celsius in several locations. Interior regions, including Vale do Tejo, Beira Baixa, and Alentejo, could see temperatures reaching between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius. Most of the territory is expected to see highs between 34 and 38 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
Coastal areas will remain slightly cooler, with temperatures ranging from 25 to 31 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the heat may lead to tropical nights, where minimum temperatures do not drop below 20 degrees Celsius, particularly in the Lisbon region and the southern coast of the Algarve.
