Portugal highlights transport passes for students and commuters

With the return to school, the Portuguese government is highlighting two transport pass options to reduce commuting costs for students and frequent travelers.

The ‘Passe Gratuito Jovem’ provides free access to all public transport modes, including buses, metro, and urban trains, for individuals aged 4 to 23, regardless of student status. Users only need to present a valid identification document to prove their age.

For those primarily using rail services, the ‘Passe Ferroviário Verde’ offers an affordable alternative for 20 euros per month. This pass is valid for urban trains in Lisbon and Porto, as well as Regional and Interregional services provided by CP, though it excludes Alfa Pendular and 1st class Intercidades services.
