Portugal Issues Very High Rural Fire Danger Warning for Aug 1‑2, 2026

The Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has forecast a "Very High" rural fire danger level for the weekend of 1–2 August 2026. The warning covers the interior north and centre regions, as well as large parts of Alentejo and the Algarve.

Authorities advise residents to avoid unnecessary trips to forests and rural areas, refrain from using fire for any purpose, keep vehicles away from dry vegetation, handle agricultural and forestry equipment with extreme caution, and maintain clear fuel‑break strips around homes. In the event of a fire, the public should call 112, provide precise location details, and not attempt to fight the blaze without proper means. The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority and local municipalities are coordinating the response and issuing further restrictions as needed.
