Portugal labor groups organize protests against rising cost of living

Labor organizations and political groups in Portugal are organizing public actions on October 1 to protest the rising cost of living, specifically targeting fuel prices, food costs, and housing.

In Funchal, the PCP (Portuguese Communist Party) has scheduled a ‘buzinão’ (honking protest) for 18:00 at the eastern entrance of the city near the Boa Nova exit. The party is protesting the continuous increase in fuel prices, noting that diesel prices recently rose by 11 cents, which they argue increases the overall cost of living and daily necessities.

Simultaneously, the União dos Sindicatos do Algarve/CGTP-IN will hold a public action in Portimão starting at 08:00 on Avenida São João de Deus. The union is calling for urgent increases in wages and pensions to combat inflation, the rising cost of the food basket, and housing difficulties. They are also demanding better regulation of essential services and increased investment in public health, education, and social security.
