Portugal national exam averages improve in most subjects
Data released by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MECI) shows that average scores in the second phase of Portugal's national secondary school exams improved in 16 out of 24 subjects compared to last year.
History A saw the most significant increase, rising by 1.5 points to an average of 10.9 on a 0-20 scale. Other improvements were noted in Portuguese, English, Philosophy, and History B. Conversely, Descriptive Geometry A experienced the largest decline, falling to a negative average of 9.5.
Among the most highly attended subjects, Mathematics A, Biology and Geology, and Physics and Chemistry all saw decreases in average scores. Specifically, Biology and Geology dropped to an average of 9.0, while Mathematics A fell to 9.2. A total of 85,745 exams were completed during the July session, which was 2,663 fewer than the previous year.
