Portugal police detain 83-year-old after assault; couple charged with ten thefts

In Évora, a 55‑year‑old man and a 27‑year‑old woman have been charged by the DIAP with ten thefts, property damage, illegal entry and possession of a prohibited weapon. The crimes, which took place between May 2025 and February 2026, targeted parked cars, residences and commercial premises. The man is held in preventive detention, while the woman remains free on a residence guarantee. Prosecutors are seeking €5,000 in compensation for the victims.

Separately, in Vila Franca de Xira, an 83‑year‑old man was arrested after he assaulted a PSP officer during a routine patrol. He had initially refused to identify himself, claiming he lacked documents, and later attacked the officer with both hands, causing pain and attempting to block the officer’s exit. He was charged with disobedience, resistance and coercion, despite an envelope later revealing he possessed identification. He awaits his first judicial interrogation.
