Portugal police detain suspects in retaliatory shooting spree

The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) has detained three young suspects, aged between 18 and 21, in connection with a series of shootings in Portugal motivated by retaliation. The violence stems from a June 2025 incident at Carcavelos beach in Cascais, where a 21-year-old man shot two people following a dispute at a restaurant. That individual was later sentenced to a suspended three-and-a-half-year prison term.

In response to that legal outcome, two separate attacks occurred in the Amadora region. On April 4, a witness to the original beach incident was shot in the abdomen. On May 21, the father of that witness was shot three times and later died in the hospital. The suspects involved in these retaliatory attacks have been arrested and placed in preventive detention.
