Portugal prepares for traditional religious and cultural festivals

Various traditional religious and cultural festivals are scheduled across Portugal. In Atalaia, the Festa Grande in honor of Nossa Senhora da Atalaia will take place from August 28 to August 31. This 500-year-old pilgrimage involves five different 'círios' from communities including Montijo, Palmela, Sesimbra, and Pinhal Novo, all converging at the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Atalaia.

In Tomar, the Círio de Nossa Senhora da Piedade is set for September 12 and 13. The event features religious ceremonies, a procession with horses and carriages, and a traditional auction of 'fogaças'. All proceeds from the celebrations are dedicated to the maintenance of the Ermida de Nossa Senhora da Piedade.

Additionally, the Alcácer do Sal region will host several cultural activities. The Artes & Caça event in Casebres will occur on August 29 and 30, celebrating rural traditions through fishing, music, and local crafts. The Miradouro dos Açougues will also host a market for local products and regional sweets.
