Portugal: Prime Minister claims 15% net wage growth over two years

Prime Minister Luís Montenegro has stated that net salaries in Portugal have increased by approximately 15% over the last two years. This growth is attributed to a resilient labor market, the upward trajectory of the national minimum wage, and remuneration valorization agreements reached through social concertation.

In addition to wage increases, the government has implemented several reductions in IRS (Personal Income Tax), which has further increased the net income available to Portuguese citizens. The most recent of these reductions is scheduled for discussion next week.

According to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE) for the second quarter of the year, the average total monthly gross remuneration per worker in June was approximately 1,835 euros. This figure includes base salary, meal allowances, and overtime. The base component specifically stood at 1,342 euros in June.
