Portugal records two minor earthquakes in Paços de Ferreira and Mourão
The Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA) reported a magnitude 2.1 earthquake on 4 July 2026 with its epicenter about six kilometres west of Paços de Ferreira in the Porto district. The tremor was felt in the nearby municipalities of Gondomar, Paredes and Valongo, but no injuries or material damage were reported.
The following day, on 5 July 2026, a magnitude 2.6 quake was recorded about 14 kilometres north of Mourão in the Évora district. The event registered intensity II on the Mercalli scale, was felt by a few people, and likewise caused no personal or property damage.
Both events were classified as light seismic activity and did not result in any reported casualties or structural impact.
