Portugal regional programs drive investment via European funds
Regional development programs in Portugal are driving significant investment through European funds. The NORTE 2030 program is directing resources toward the North of Portugal, focusing on economic innovation, competitiveness, environmental transition, and social inclusion. The Alto Minho sub-region has emerged as a major beneficiary, following only the Porto Metropolitan Area in terms of approved projects and funding volume. In Alto Minho, Viana do Castelo leads with 119 projects totaling approximately 365 million euros, followed by Ponte da Barca, Paredes de Coura, and Valença.
Simultaneously, the Alentejo 2030 program reports a 53.5% approval rate for its operations, aligning with the average for Portugal 2030 regional programs. The program shows particular strength in the Just Transition Fund (FTJ), which boasts an 88.7% approval rate. This high performance indicates a strong capacity to mobilize resources for energy transition and territorial sustainability within the Alentejo region.
