Portugal reopens upgraded health centers in Lourinhã and Loulé

The Lourinhã Health Center in Portugal reopened after a €855,000 refurbishment funded entirely by the national Recovery and Resilience Plan. The works, begun in November 2025, focused on exterior insulation, roof waterproofing, window replacement, and upgrades to electrical and climate‑control systems. During the eight‑month closure, primary‑care services were temporarily provided in a municipal pavilion.

In the interior municipality of Loulé, the Tôr Health Extension also reopened following a renovation that addressed wall infiltrations, worn furnishings and other structural deficiencies. The upgraded unit now serves 506 residents with a family doctor, nurse and clinical secretary. Local officials highlighted the project’s role in reducing health‑service disparities between coastal and inland areas and in supporting population retention.

Both projects illustrate Portugal’s effort to modernise primary‑care infrastructure, improve accessibility and comfort for patients and staff, and align local facilities with contemporary health‑service standards.
