Fátima pilgrimages and replica chapel projects draw participants in Portugal and Brazil
The Diocese of Guarda in Portugal will stage its annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima on 26‑27 August 2026, continuing a tradition that attracted about 1,200 faithful in 2025. The programme includes a procession, rosary, candle lighting and a vigil at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary.
In the same month, the municipality of Póvoa de Lanhoso has organised a civic pilgrimage to Fátima for 8 August, with registration open until 31 July. The day‑long walk features a mass at the Church of the Holy Trinity, a communal lunch and a return to the town in the late afternoon.
Separately, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fátima in Crato, Ceará, Brazil, received official permission to build a second authorised replica of the Capelinha das Aparições, mirroring the original 1919 design. Brazil will therefore host two such replicas, the other already in Rio de Janeiro, meant to serve as centres of evangelisation and prayer.
