Portugal targets €53 billion in tourism revenue by 2035

Portugal aims to reach approximately 50 million international non-resident tourists and exceed €53 billion in tourism revenue by 2035, according to projections from the World Tourism Organization cited by State Secretary of Tourism Pedro Machado.

Speaking at the AHRESP congress in Faro, Machado announced that the ‘Tourism Strategy 2035’ has been approved and is awaiting public presentation. This new plan succeeds the Tourism Strategy 2027 and focuses on increasing gross value added and correcting regional asymmetries to ensure a more balanced distribution of wealth across the country.

Looking ahead to the short term, the government expects to close 2026 with likely more than 30 million international tourists and over €30 billion in revenue. Regarding the 2027 State Budget, Machado addressed potential decreases in tourism investment by explaining an adjustment due to the conclusion of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and other programs.
