Portugal to hold national earthquake awareness exercise

The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) will conduct the 14th edition of the “A Terra Treme” national earthquake awareness exercise on November 5 at 11:05. The initiative coincides with World Tsunami Awareness Day.

Participants are encouraged to practice three life-saving actions for one minute: drop, cover, and hold on. The exercise aims to sensitize the population to seismic risks and promote self-protection behaviors. Participation is free and open to individuals, families, schools, companies, and both public and private institutions.

While registration is not mandatory, the ANEPC encourages citizens to sign up via the official website to help track participation trends. Regional and sub-regional commands will coordinate awareness actions with schools, firefighters, and municipal civil protection services. A primary action for this edition will take place at the Sebastião da Gama Secondary School in Setúbal.
