Portugal announces increase to elderly solidarity supplement
The Portuguese government has announced a 50 euro increase to the Complemento Solidário para Idosos (CSI), set to take effect in 2027. This adjustment will raise the reference value from the current 670 euros to 720 euros.
Prime Minister Luís Montenegro confirmed the decision following a Council of Ministers meeting in Guarda, noting that the increase is part of a broader strategy to improve elderly support. This marks the fourth increase under his administration. The government's long-term goal, as outlined in its program, is to reach a reference value of 870 euros by 2029.
The CSI is a monthly support program intended for elderly residents in Portugal who meet specific income criteria. Recent changes to access conditions, such as no longer considering the income of children when evaluating applicants, have contributed to a significant increase in the number of beneficiaries.
