Portugal's Education Ministry resolves delayed national exam results
Minister of Education Fernando Alexandre announced that secondary school exam results would be made available online through the Inovar platform, aiming for publication on Friday. The first phase of the exams, corrected digitally for the first time, suffered technical glitches that delayed grading and left around 1,400 papers marked with the notation “suspenso”.
The National Exam Jury (JNE) and the Institute of Education, Quality and Assessment (EduQA) subsequently validated the missing papers, replaced the “suspenso” tag with numeric grades and prepared complete result files for schools. Schools began posting the results; some opened their doors after hours to allow students and parents to consult the scores, while the Minister warned directors that failure to publish on time could lead to accountability measures.
The Ministry issued an apology, assured that no student would be disadvantaged in university admission for reasons beyond their control, and said pending cases would be resolved promptly. It also explained that the “suspenso” label was used to prevent errors and outlined the procedure for students to request a re‑appraisal of their papers.
