Portugal to receive light rain as Atlantic front moves inland

An Atlantic front associated with an isolated upper‑level depression is expected to reach mainland Portugal on Sunday, 12 July. Meteorological services forecast weak, irregular rain mainly over the northern and central coastal regions, with accumulations of roughly 0.5 – 5 mm. The most pronounced precipitation could affect the interior of Minho, the Porto district, and the districts of Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria and Lisbon, while occasional showers may extend to the Alentejo and Algarve coasts.

The influx of cooler maritime air will also lower temperatures after a recent heatwave that placed most of Portugal under red‑alert warnings. Temperatures are projected to fall to the high 20s °C in Lisbon and the interior, easing from the exceptional 40 °C highs recorded earlier in the week. The system may generate isolated thunderstorms as it advances southeastward from the Azores towards the Iberian Peninsula.
