Portugal warns of new phishing scams impersonating Social Security and EDP

Portugal's Social Security announced a wave of fraudulent SMS messages that mimic official communications, featuring links to counterfeit portals that copy the agency's layout. Recipients are urged never to click such links, to delete the messages and to report them to mobile operators or authorities, and to monitor bank accounts if personal data were entered.

The energy company EDP issued a similar alert, describing a more sophisticated scam that uses real personal information to create convincing messages and phone calls, and even door‑to‑door visits pretending to be technicians. EDP advises customers to verify any contact through official channels, avoid payments via links, and report suspicious interactions immediately.
