Portugal weather: temperature drop and storm warnings
Portugal is experiencing a significant shift in weather patterns, characterized by a sharp drop in temperatures and the return of Atlantic weather fronts. The Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA) has issued yellow warnings for several districts, including Vila Real, Bragança, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Évora, and Beja, due to the risk of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and hail.
Temperatures are expected to fall significantly, particularly in the interior North and Center regions, where minimums could drop between 3°C and 10°C. While some areas may see clear skies early in the week, more active weather fronts are predicted to arrive starting Wednesday, October 21, bringing rain to the North and Center coasts.
Additionally, the Direção-Geral da Saúde (DGS) has issued warnings regarding dust from North Africa, which may affect air quality and pose health risks to vulnerable groups, such as children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.
