Portugal weather: Heat alerts and extreme wildfire risk

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued several weather warnings across Portugal due to high temperatures and extreme wildfire risks.

Seven districts in mainland Portugal—Beja, Castelo Branco, Évora, Faro, Lisbon, Setúbal, and Portalegre—are under a yellow alert for heat, valid until 21:00 on Monday. Additionally, the southern coast of Madeira and the island of Porto Santo are under a yellow alert for heat through Tuesday.

Extreme wildfire risk has been declared for 19 municipalities across five districts: Bragança, Guarda, Santarém, Portalegre, and Faro. These areas include Vimioso, Miranda do Douro, Mogadouro, Figueiró dos Vinhos, Tomar, Sardoal, Mação, Nisa, Gavião, Castelo de Vide, Marvão, Monchique, Portimão, Silves, Loulé, São Brás de Alportel, and Tavira. Over 80 other municipalities remain under a very high fire risk alert.
