Portugal weather to shift from heatwave to rain and cooler temperatures
Mainland Portugal is expected to experience a significant weather transition following a period of unseasonably high temperatures. Forecasts based on the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) model indicate that after temperatures reach or exceed 30 ºC in several regions, a cooler air mass will cause a sharp decline in temperatures over the weekend.
In some locations, maximum temperatures could drop by as much as 10 ºC within a 48-hour period. For instance, Beja is projected to fall from 30 ºC on Friday to approximately 20 ºC by Sunday, while Guarda may see a decrease from 24 ºC to 15 ºC. Some areas may even see temperatures drop toward 9 ºC.
Following this cooling trend, meteorological models suggest an increase in atmospheric instability and the return of rain starting mid-week, specifically between Tuesday and Thursday. Additionally, wind speeds are expected to intensify, with gusts potentially reaching 60 to 65 km/h in certain zones.
