Portugal's Conta Lá TV channel sets August 6 shareholder meeting

The public‑service television project Conta Lá will hold a shareholders' general meeting on 6 August. The agenda includes the appointment of a new Management Commission, a capital increase and approval of a restructuring plan.

CEO Sérgio Figueiredo announced his departure on 15 July and informed workers that the meeting will decide the reconversion strategy. The channel employs about 100 staff – roughly 40 journalists – and has been unable to pay salaries for almost three months, leading to possible temporary lay‑offs. Employees have voiced concerns about the continuity of the project, which was authorized by the Portuguese media regulator ERC a year ago.

The restructuring aims to reduce costs and secure the channel’s role in promoting territorial cohesion and public‑service broadcasting.
