Portugal's Environment Ministry meets all PRR targets with €1.8 billion investment
Portugal’s Ministry of Environment and Energy has successfully completed all 51 targets assigned to it under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). The initiative involved investments exceeding 1.8 billion euros across critical sectors, including energy efficiency, water management, and sustainable mobility.
In the area of energy efficiency alone, over 556 million euros were deployed. This funding supported more than 85,000 homes through the Sustainable Buildings Support Program, distributed 20,000 Efficiency Vouchers, and provided 53,600 E-LAR vouchers. Additionally, over two million square meters of public and service buildings were renovated.
The European Commission has recognized Portugal as a model for utilizing PRR funds to combat energy poverty and promote housing renovation. The Commission specifically praised the establishment of a national network of 132 ‘Espaços Energia’ (Energy Spaces) designed to provide citizens with information and support regarding consumption reduction and public incentives.
