Portugal's Evora region earthquake magnitude revised to 3.7

The Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA) updated the magnitude of the earthquake that struck the Evora region on the night of 22 July to 3.7, revising an earlier estimate of 3.6. The epicentre was located about ten kilometres south of the city of Evora at a depth of roughly 20 km, and the quake was recorded at 01:22 local time.

The tremor was felt in ten municipalities, including Evora, Beja, Alandroal, Arraiolos, Montemor‑o‑Novo, Redondo, Reguengos de Monsaraz, Avis, Elvas and Sousel, with a maximum intensity of III/IV on the modified Mercalli scale. No personal injuries or material damage were reported. IPMA advised residents to follow the guidance of civil protection authorities. The region had experienced similar low‑magnitude seismic activity in December, when a magnitude‑3.5 quake was also recorded near Evora.
